13km Bi-spectrum 31~155mm Long Range Thermal Camera
Description
Long Range IR Thermal Imaging Camera products are developed based on the latest fifth generation uncooled infrared technology and continuous zoom infrared optical technology. The 12/17 μm uncooled focal plane imaging detector with high sensitivity and adopt with 384 × 288 / 640 × 512 / 1280 × 1024 resolution. Equipped with Hight resolution daylight camera with defog function for day time details observation.
One integral aluminum alloy housing makes sure the camera works well outdoor. In combination with 360-degree PT, the camera is capable of conducting 24 hours real-time monitoring. The camera is IP66 rates, which ensures camera´s normal operation under tough weather conditions
Calculation method
The Johnson criteria is a commonly used method for calculating target distance using thermal imaging cameras. The basic principle is:
For a thermal camera with a fixed focal length infrared lens, the apparent size of the target in the image decreases with increasing distance. According to the Johnson criteria, the relationship between target distance (R), image size (S), actual target size (A) and focal length (F) can be expressed as:
A/R = S/F (1)
Where A is the actual length of the target, R is the distance between target and camera, S is the length of the target image and F is the focal length of the infrared lens.
Based on the image size of the target and the focal length of the lens, the distance R can be calculated as:
R = A * F / S (2)
For example, if the actual target size A is 5m, the focal length F is 50mm, and the target image size S is 100 pixels.
Then the target distance is:
R = 5 * 50 / 100 = 25m
So by measuring the pixel size of the target in the thermal image and knowing the specifications of the thermal camera, the distance to the target can be estimated using the Johnson criteria equation. Some factors that may affect the accuracy include the target emissivity, environment temperature, camera resolution, etc. But in general, for rough distance estimation, the Johnson method is simple and useful for many thermal camera applications.
